slow KDE4 using nvidia driver, updated from 173 to 177 was a huge improvement (from about 80% cpu usage to 20%) with „export KWIN_NVIDIA_HACK=1″ in ~/.profile -
using the opensource nv driver gives a giant improvement, see the howto for it
